I opened my wireless store, Parlez Wireless, in 2006 and quickly found that traditional advertising just didn’t work. After wasting $20,000 on advertising that did not generate one lead someone invited me to a networking event.
Next thing I knew I became a networking junkie because everyone I met wanted to buy something from me after they got to know me. It was great but it took up a lot of my time.
Then one day Facebook showed up in my store literally. It was on the front screen of a new BlackBerry device we were launching and I knew right then and there, I needed to learn what it was all about.
I thought Facebook was for kids and for cheating spouses – boy was I wrong.
As soon as I got on Facebook and started connecting with people and catching up, something interesting started to happen.
People started asking me about business. They started asking how I could help them. Right away I realized that Facebook could be a powerful networking tool.
I started talking about Facebook everywhere I went. Then Twitter came along and I had to hire someone to show me exactly what to do because I didn’t have the patience to read ten books to figure it out. I wanted to fast track my learning – just like you.
Then one day someone asked me to hold a workshop and teach others what I knew .
That tap on the shoulder changed the course of my life. Fast forward to today – I have sold my store, I employ a number of people, run a multiple six-figure business and have helped hundreds of small businesses, corporations, authors and non-profits use Social Media for business.
